Jockey Danny Nikolic Disqualified For Two Years
Yesterday afternoon, Victoria's Racing & Appeals Disciplinary Appeals Board disqualified jockey Danny Nikolic for a concurrent term of 2 years after a month-long saga. The sentence was back-dated to September 4 when Nikolic was first stood down, and will conclude on September 3, 2014. The independent three-man panel of Brian Forrest (Chair), Stephen Curtain and Jeremy Rosenthal reached a unanimous decision on penalty after Nikolic was found guilty on 21 September 2012 of breaching Australian Rules of Racing 175(a) and 175A. In handing down the penalty, Chair Brian Forrest stated, "Disqualification is a drastic penalty but in the Board's opinion no lesser penalty is appropriate in the circumstances." Nikolic made no comment, and it is unclear whether he will appeal the verdict with Victoria's Civil Administrative Tribunal.
