Sunday's Gr1 Arc Loses Yet Another Star

Wednesday, 3rd October 2012

In another blow to Longchamp and racing fans around the world, Sunday's Gr1 Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe weight-for-age contest has been further depleted by the shock withdrawal of Gr1 King George & Queen Elizabeth Stakes & Gr1 Eclipse Stakes-winning 4YO entire Nathaniel (Galileo-Magnificent Style, by Silver Hawk). According to thoroughbreddailynews.com, "The John Gosden-trained 4-year-old underwent blood tests – which were deemed unsatisfactory – when found to be running a temperature. Nathaniel's withdrawal follows that of Snow Fairy & defending champion Danedream. One possible positive is racingpost.com's overnight report that "Aidan O'Brien has given his strongest hint yet that dual Derby winner Camelot will take his chance in Sunday's Qatar Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe". A final decision is expected today, with Nathaniel's regular rider William Buick a possible replacement rider for Joseph O'Brien who can't make the weight for Camelot, but is expected to partner St Nicholas Abbey.
