Barrier Trial Only For Thousand Guineas Favourite
The new favourite for this month's Gr1 One Thousand Guineas at Caulfield, Molto Bene (Royal Academy-Benevolent, by Generous) will not have another start prior to the rich 3YO event for fillies, reports dailytelegraph.com.au. Her trainer Will Clarken "had the option of running the three-year-old filly in the Edward Manifold Stakes at Flemington on Saturday, but thought she would be better suited in a trial". The Adelaide trainer pointed to the fact that progeny of Molto Bene's sire Royal Academy tend to do better when fresh. Clarken's plan, providing "Molto Bene comes through the Thousand Guineas well" is to step her up to the Wakeful Stakes & then the Gr1 Oaks, a similar path most of the leading sophomore fillies will take.
