Breeders' Cup Return For Animal Kingdom

Thursday, 4th October 2012

Connections have confirmed that 2011 Gr1 Kentucky Derby hero Animal Kingdom (Leroidesanimaux-Dalicia, by Acatenango) "will make his first start since February in the [Gr1] Breeders' Cup Mile", reports drf.com. Deviating from his original plan to resume in this year's Dubai World Cup due to a "stress fracture of the ilium" (pelvis bone), he has been back in work since June. Trainer Graham Motion noted, "Coming off the layoff, the Mile just seems very logical for him... He certainly has the turn of foot to handle it. The timing is right for his schedule coming back, and the caliber of horse that he is, you're not going to look for a nice, easy spot." Having had over 8 months since his last run, Animal Kingdom would need to emulate Da Hoss (Gone West-Jolly Saint, by Welsh Saint) who took the 1998 Gr1 Breeders' Cup Mile after approximately a 2 year lay-off.
