Ollie Wins "Go Slow" Appeal

Thursday, 4th October 2012

Following an appeal yesterday to the Racing Appeals and Disciplinary Board (RAD) the 11 meeting suspension imposed upon champion jockey Damien Oliver "for going too slowly in a race at last Friday's Moonee Valley meeting" has been overturned, reports racenet.com.au. The initial Stewards' finding had Oliver "causing interference to rival runners when he restrained Elite Elle at the 900-metre mark of the Gr3 Champagne Stakes", however after taking evidence from Elite Elle's trainer Tony Vasil the RAD Board decided "there was too much contradictory evidence from all parties." The upholding of the appeal allows Oliver to maintain rides in the Gr2 Turnbull Stakes (Rekindled Interest) this Saturday and Gr1 Caulfield Guineas the following weekend.
