Bated Breath To Stand At Banstead Manor
In the UK it has been confirmed that Gr2 Haydock Temple Stakes winner and 5-times Gr1 runner-up Bated Breath (Dansili-Tantina, by Distant View) "is set to stand alongside his sire Dansili at Banstead Manor Stud near Newmarket next season", reports racingpost.com. Being a "fast-ground specialist" and with those conditions unlikely again this season, the decision was made to opt for retirement. Lauded by trainer Roger Charlton as "the best sprinter I've ever trained", Bated Breath "broke the six-furlong Haydock track record" this season and his resumé includes seconds in an elite quartet of Gr1 sprints: July Cup, King's Stand Stakes, Haydock Sprint Cup & Woodbine Nearctic Stakes. Charlton commented: "He has been a wonderful horse to train; genuine, tough, sound and consistent with a bombproof temperament." And in response to his imminent career at stud, Charlton added, "I am sure when breeders see him they will fall in love with him. Being by Dansili and a half-brother to Cityscape, who has earned more than £2.7 million, and from the family of champion European two-year-old Xaar, he should be a big hit in the breeding shed."
