Williams Lands Plum Cox Plate Pierro Mount

Tuesday, 9th October 2012

With regular race rider Nash Rawiller committed to Gai Waterhouse stablemate More Joyous, jockey Craig Williams has been selected as the Gr1 Cox Plate rider for undefeated champion Pierro. According to Racing Sports National, Williams (who rode Pinker Pinker in the late mare's Cox Plate victory last year), is most wary of last Saturday's Gr1 Turnbull Stakes winner Green Moon who he rode for owner Lloyd Williams: "His work four weeks ago was up to a Cox Plate in my mind..." Meanwhile, dailytelegraph.com.au reports that Pierro won't have a look at Caulfield before starting in Saturday's Gr1 Caulfield Guineas for which he has been the subject of several big bets. Pierro, similarly, tackled Moonee Valley in the Bill Stutt Stakes sight unseen 10 days ago, and sailed around like he'd been training there all his career.
