15 Still In Contention For Gr1 Dewhurst

Wednesday, 10th October 2012

In the UK, this Saturday's Gr1 Dewhurst Stakes at Newmarket looms as a hotly contested affair following news that 15 remain in contention. Chief among these is trainer Jim Bowler's unbeaten Gr1 National Stakes & Gr2 Royal Ascot Coventry Stakes winning colt Dawn Approach (New Approach-Hymn of the Dawn, by Phone Trick), reports sportinglife.com. Dawn Approach currently heads betting markets as "ante-post favourite for next year's [Gr1] 2000 Guineas". Bolger's recent run in the Dewhurst has been unprecedented, taking home "four of the last six" and he may also be represented this year by Leiter Mor (Holy Roman Emperor-Christina's Letter, by Galileo). Ballydoyle has 8 potential entries, headed by Coventry Stakes 3rd Cristoforo Colombo (Henrythenavigator-La Traviata, by Johannesburg), US-bred Lines of Battle (War Front-Black Speck, by Arch) and up and coming colt The Ferryman (Galileo-Dietrich, by Storm Cat). Roger Charlton saddles Gr3 Acomb Stakes winner Dundonnell (First Defence-Family, by Danzig) while Khalid Abdullah is likely to be represented by undefeated Ashdan (Dansili-Bonash, by Rainbow Quest).
