Coup For Racing And Breeding In Victoria
Victoria's breeding and racing industries are the beneficiaries of an exciting development, with Swettenham Stud's Adam Sangster and Mornington-based trainer Sam Pritchard-Gordon combining to purchase French Gr1-winning 4YO entire Mutual Trust (Cacique-Posteritas by Lear Fan). A Juddmonte Farm homebred, and grandson of Danehill, Mutual Trust was initially trained by Andre Fabre to win his debut at Chantilly, progressing to Gr3 level at only his 3rd when winning the Prix Paul de Moussac, before victory in the Gr1 Prix Jean Prat (1600m) only 2 months after his debut. Former Juddmonte racing manager Grant Pritchard-Gordon, who brokered the deal, commented, "I saw Mutual Trust working at the Juddmonte training track and there's a lot of Danehill about him both in substance and temperament… He's a very strong individual and I sincerely believe it's a good gamble taking him to Australia." Sam Pritchard-Gordon also enthused: "I'm keen to start the ball rolling with Mutual Trust and the timing is ideal for an autumn preparation… He has high-cruising speed coupled with an endurance capacity to withstand a long sustained run that is so typical of French racing… Those characteristics define the best 2000m horses in Australia. There are a few options for Mutual Trust including a traditional weight-for-age route to the Australian Cup (2000m) via the C F Orr Stakes (1400m) or Futurity Stakes (1600m)." He also crystal-balled: "And why couldn't he measure up to a Cox Plate in twelve months?"
