Small Field Nullifies Wide Draw For Pierro

Wednesday, 10th October 2012

Despite drawing the second outside gate (7) for this Saturday's feature Gr1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m), Pierro's work at Flemington yesterday morning suggested he could possibly draw somewhere off the coast of Hawaii and still start a pronounced favourite. Owner Greg Kolivos was present at the gallop and still beaming hours later as the reigning Champion 2YO scorched home his final furlong (of 1200m) in 10.38 sec. Kolivos enthused, "I came down late last night [from Sydney], it was a last-minute decision to come down, and I'm thrilled I did… It was really his second (strong) piece of work over the last couple of weeks since Moonee Valley [Gr2 Bill Stutt Stakes win] and he ran some fabulous time. It took our breath away actually. It was terrific to watch and if he produces that on Saturday he's going to be very hard to beat." The field with barriers is:

  • Pierro (7)
  • Epaulette (6)
  • All Too Hard (3)
  • Ashokan (8)
  • Road Trippin (5)
  • Carringbush Jack (4)
  • Awesom Bro (2)
  • Let Go Lenni (1)
