Tattersalls October Book-1 Sale: 800,000 Guineas Raven's Pass Colt
On Day-1 of the 3-day Tattersalls October Book-1 Yearling Sale, Sheikh Mohammed's representative John Ferguson paid top price of 800,000 guineas for a colt by young stallion Raven's Pass (Elusive Quality–Ascutney, by Lord at War) after a bidding duel with Coolmore's John Magnier. Out of the Gr1 Irish 1,000 Guineas winner Nightime, Lot 161 was consigned by The Castlebridge Consignment on behalf of breeder Mrs Marguerite Weld. "Raven's Pass has obviously done very well and we are thrilled with [Raven's Pass' Gr2 Royal Lodge Stakes winner] Stealer," declared Ferguson after the purchase. "But there are plenty more in the pipeline by Raven's Pass and they are all showing the right signs... what is more, Mrs Weld, who bred this horse, has to be hugely congratulated. We have seen this horse as a foal and through to the spring and he has just thrived. When we saw him here we were not surprised to see such a lovely horse."
