Tattersalls October Book-1 Sale: Turnover Soars 27%

On the opening day of the annual Tattersalls October Book-1 Sale in the UK, turnover climbed 27% over 2011, in the process posting the highest aggregate for the sale since its inception in 2003. Overall, 23,016,000 guineas traded hands for the 139 lots sold. The 165,583 guineas average was up 9% over last year's opening session while the median of 110,000 guineas was up 10%. Of particular note is that 8 yearlings sold for 500,000 guineas or more (see below) on Day-1 of the 3-day sale, compared to a total of 9 horses that sold for 500,000 guineas and above over the total sale last year.
