Knee Injury Ends Manighar's Spring
In what is a blow for connections and several of the spring carnival's feature events, 7-year-old, 3-time Gr1 winner Manighar (Linamix-Mintly Fresh, by Rubiano) has been "sent to the paddock [yesterday morning] after suffering a knee injury", reports theage.com.au. A leading Gr1 Cox Plate fancy, he was slated to run in tomorrow's Gr1 Caulfield Stakes. Although trainer Peter Moody clarified that Manighar "had a "spur" on his knee as a result of "wear-and-tear" and that "the injury was not career-threatening", the full prognosis has not yet been clarified. With Manighar's withdrawal from Saturday's event, last start Gr1 Underwood Stakes winner Ocean Park (Thorn Park-Sayyida, by Zabeel) will likely start "the short priced favourite" (see details in markets below). Moody added, ''I just hadn't been 100 per cent with him and so we re-X-rayed him and just decided that he'd done enough this time in and we'd give him a nice break… He should recover without a worry and he can come back in the autumn for another go as he's still only lightly raced."
