Favourite Norzita Out Of Thousand Guineas

Monday, 15th October 2012

In a blow for favourite punters, the Bart Cummings-trained filly Norzita (winner 9 days ago of the Gr1 Flight Stakes) has been withdrawn from Wednesday's Gr1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield in Melbourne. According to theaustralian.com.au, the decision was made by the stable following a "lacklustre gallop" at Randwick on Saturday morning. Considered one of the jewels for 3YO fillies on the Australian calendar, the Thousand Guineas has an undeniable history as a springboard to greater turf accolades. Recent past winners include Atlantic Jewel, Irish Lights, Miss Finland, Mnemosyne, Alinghi, Special Harmony, Magical Miss & Shizu. Ironically, Norzita's scratching leaves Commanding Jewel – a half-sister to last year's winner Atlantic Jewel – the new favourite with Luxbet. Click on their link for the latest market.
