Santa Anita Horse Heads In Wrong Direction
Monday-Odd-Spot: Last Friday's 2nd race at Santa Anita Park in California took an unexpected turn when the horse drawn nearest the rail (from the chute) hesitated and then did a sharp left on the anti-clockwise circuit, reports horseracingnation.com. The 'culprit', Spinning Love, then jumped "over the temporary inside rail, unseating jockey Alonso Quinonez" before running "the wrong way along the inside rail through the Club House turn and into the stretch." Santa Anita's stewards reacted quickly to the situation by radioing the track's outriders and also getting commentator Trevor Denman to announce to the rest of the riders – who reacted accordingly – that the loose horse was headed in their direction down the home straight. The race was declared a no contest.
