Solzhenitsyn Wins Gr1 Toorak Handicap

At Caulfield, St Petersburg (Nureyev-Miss Bold Appeal, by Valid Appeal) celebrated a Gr1 success when 6YO gelding Solzhenitsyn (St Petersburg-Tri Victory, by Victory Dance) scored by a long neck for trainer Robert Heathcote in the $400,000 Gr1 Toorak Handicap (1600m), over 5YO mares Spirit Song (Invincible Spirit–Lightning Rules, by Kingston Rule) & Yosei (Invincible Spirit–Fuji Fairy, by Fuji Kiseki). Placed in the Gr1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes at Caulfield in his last start, Solzhenitsyn (a NZ$10,000 weanling at the 2007 NZ Bloodstock National Weanling Sale) came with a late flourish to take his record to 11 wins (also including Brisbane's Gr3 Lord Mayor's Cup & Listed Strawberry Road Handicap) & 7 placings from 24 starts for $598,614 earnings.
