Stakes Increase For Perth Cup

Monday, 15th October 2012

In WA news, the chairman and committee of Perth Racing announced that prize money for the 2013 Gr2 Golden River Developments Perth Cup (2400 metres) will increase by $100,000 to $500,000. The iconic race was first contested at Ascot racecourse in 1887 and over the years has developed into one of Perth's most important sporting and social events held each year at Ascot on New Year's Day. At $500,000 the Perth Cup now joins the Club's premier 2YO race the Karrakatta Plate as one the highest valued Gr2 races on the Australian racing calendar. It also joins the Sydney Cup as the third richest handicap race between 2400 – 3200 metres, behind only the Melbourne & Caulfield Cups.
