UK Gr1 Sprint Star Retired To Stud

Tuesday, 16th October 2012

July Cup winner Mayson (Invincible Spirit-Mayleaf, by Pivotal) whose rivals included Ortensia (4th) has been retired to Cheveley Park Stud after failing to recover from a bruised foot in time for a run in the Gr2 Champions Sprint on Saturday. The Stud purchased a major share in Mayson following his 5-length romp in the July Cup and always intended to stand him for the 2013 season. Trainer Richard Fahey told racingpost.com: "He was a wonderful horse to train and had a super temperament. He won an Abernant, Palace House and July Cup all in one season, which takes a bit of doing, and was just beaten at Longchamp. We were really looking forward to running him at Ascot, but it wasn't to be."  Mayson retires the winner of 5 races (including the 2012 Gr1 July Cup, Gr3 Palace House Stakes, & Listed Abernant Stakes) and 7 placings from 18 starts.
