Frankel Faces Stiffest Challenge

Wednesday, 17th October 2012

Also in the UK, Khalid Abdullah's racing manager Teddy Grimthorpe is under no illusions about the task facing Frankel in Saturday's Gr1 Champion Stakes at Ascot, but wants to enjoy the moment: "I've always come into this with the attitude that we have to enjoy him. The horse has done everything that we could possibly have dreamt about and I hope he'll run a huge race on Saturday." Looking to bow out with a 14 for 14 clean sweep, Frankel's rivals are several notches up on those he faced in the Juddmonte. Among his 7 opposition are last year's winner Cirrus des Aigles who returned to the track recently with a 9-lengths demolition job in the Gr2 Prix Dollar, this year's Eclipse Stakes winner Nathaniel, German Derby winner Pastorius, and the Aga Khan's Ridasiyna, who was victorious just over a week ago in France's Gr1 Prix Opera. It will be just the second time Frankel races over 12 furlongs, and the track is expected to be dead at the very best.
