Tattersalls October Book-2: 245,000 Guineas Shamardal Colt
A colt by European champion 4-time Gr1-winning former Darley shuttler Shamardal (Giant's Causeway-Helsinki, by Machiavellian) topped Day-2 of the Tattersalls October Book-2 Sale at 245,000 guineas. Knocked down to agent Ross Doyle after a bidding duel with Hong Kong Jockey Club's Mark Richards, the colt is a half-brother to Listed winner Imperial Guest, and was consigned by Yeomanstown Stud. "He is from a tough family and looks tough," said Doyle. "He is for an undisclosed client and goes into training with Richard Hannon. He is a lovely-moving horse with a pedigree and looks. We thought he was the week's standout." The other 200,000 guineas-plus sellers were a Teofilo colt out of Poppets Sweetlove (a half-sister to Champion European 3YO Sprinter Overdose), and the only Galileo yearling in Book-2; she was knocked down to BBA Ireland's Adrian Nicoll for 205,000 guineas.
