Meanwhile in Hong Kong, recent concerns by expat South African trainer David Ferraris (while preparing Liberator) regarding the dearth of staying races programmed in the lead-up to December's Gr1 Hong Kong Vase, has shone the spotlight on what appears to be an "insufficient" number of appropriate races to have local horses "at their peak on international day", reports racing.scmp.com. It is also an additional concern that while Hong Kong based challengers "are trained on flat circle tracks", international rivals have "full preparations behind them." There is a feeling that "the Jockey Club has abdicated any responsibility to real staying horses under the heading of not trying to be all things to all people."
