Cassidy "Mum" On Caulfield Cup Tactics

Friday, 19th October 2012

Following Gai Waterhouse-trained Pierro's defeat from an outside alley in last weekend's Gr1 Caulfield Guineas, jockey Jim Cassidy is "keeping his cards close to his chest" as he plots a mental course on favourite Glencadam Gold (Refuse To Bend-Sandrella, by Darshaan) "from his horror draw of gate 21", reports smh.com.au. And in a shot at the current dearth of quality in Australian staying ranks, Cassidy also suggested "that if his Caulfield and Melbourne Cup winner of the past Might And Power was in this year's race he would 'lap them'". As with Might And Power in the 1997 Caulfield Cup, he will also pilot Glencadam Gold for the first time on Saturday. Cassidy commented: "I had never been on him (Might And Power) before the Caulfield Cup. I was booked the Tuesday before the race. And he drew wide and still bolted in… I'm not concerned about that. Gai (Waterhouse) has done all the work and I'm there to just put the finish touches on the horse."
