It's Tricky Off To The Breeding Barn

Tuesday, 23rd October 2012

Godolphin's triple Gr1 winning 4YO mare It's Tricky (Mineshaft-Catboat, by Tale of the Cat) has been retired with a minor fracture to the right fetlock. The mare was in training for the Gr1 Breeders Cup Ladies Classic (in which she was runner-up in 2011), reports bloodhorse.com. Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin said in a New York Racing Association release, "She worked well and the next morning when we went to look at her, she had heat and inflammation in her right hind ankle. We had it X-rayed, and forwarded the X-rays to Dr. Larry Bramlage, and both he and Dr. Christian Rhein, who did the X-rays, agreed it was the beginning of a condylar fracture. No surgery will be required. We just have to stop on her and at this point, she'll go on to her new career as a mother." It's Tricky retires with 8 wins and 5 placings from 14 starts, including the 2012 Gr1 Ogden Phipps Handicap and 2011's Gr1 American Oaks and Gr1 Acorn Stakes for earnings of US$1,666,500.
