Exceptionally Holds The Fort In Geelong Cup

Wednesday, 24th October 2012

Despite most pundits suggesting today's Gr3 Geelong Cup will once again fall into international hands, there is an increasing feeling that talented mare Exceptionally (Ekraar-Sahayb, by Zabeel), trained out of the more local shire of Stawell, may be able to ward off the raiders, reports theaustralian.com.au which notes she has been "fancied in betting markets". However, those with an eye on the Werribee training facility suggest French import Brigantin (Cozzene-Banyu Dewi, by Poliglote) may be her biggest foe. Centrebet's Michael Felgate commented: "The word out of Werribee is that [Brigantin] has been flying and the Dunaden camp declared him as the horse to beat in the Melbourne Cup before Dunaden came out and won [the Caulfield Cup] last Saturday."
