Pierro Firms From Plum Draw In Plate

Wednesday, 24th October 2012

Following the all important barrier draw this morning for Saturday's Gr1 Cox Plate, Sydney Triple Crown-winning 3YO colt Pierro "has firmed in betting [to $3.20]", reports theage.com.au.  History will be on Pierro's side from barrier 7 in the capped 14-horse field, with it being the most winning gate in the history of the race. Trainer Gai Waterhouse opted not to attend this morning's 'Breakfast With The Best' tune-up at Moonee Valley, instead galloping her 3 plate runners Pierro, More Joyous (barrier 11) and Proisir (10) at Flemington. Pierro's conquerer in the Gr1 Caulfield Guineas All Too Hard (3) has also been named "a confirmed starter" after a pleasing gallop this morning upon which trainer Wayne Hawkes commented: "I just reckon the three-year-olds this year have the wood on them ... The race will make one of the elite..." Last year's winning jockey Craig Williams, who will partner the Lloyd Williams owned import and current second favourite Green Moon (5) reported he was "comfortable" despite turning down the ride on Pierro. He enthused, "I've done all the work on him (Green Moon). I couldn't be more comfortable going with him into the Cox Plate. He's done everything I've asked for. I feel he's the right horse," The final field with breeding & barrier is:
