Head Injury Ends Beadman Career
As his rehabilitation continues following a potentially life-threatening fall in Hong Kong in February this year, champion hoop Darren Beadman has officially called time on his riding career, reports theaustralian.com.au. Suffering from "diffuse-axonal injury" which "affects balance, speech and memory", dual Melbourne Cup winning and Australian Racing Hall of Fame inductee Beadman was forthcoming in a Nine Network Sixty Minutes segment which aired last night: "I know it's finished ... From what the medical team have told me, I'd probably end up in a nursing home if it happened again. Basically, my career's over ... Thirty odd years of excitement, that's how I look at it ... I feel I had a few more years to go. It's been a fabulous journey. I've been really blessed to be able to do something in life I really wanted to do ... I had a great day in the sun. Now it's a matter of trying to make the best of what I've got."
