Champion Sire Storm Cat Turns 30
Twice US Champion Sire & Gr1 winner Storm Cat (Storm Bird-Terlingua, by Secretariat) has celebrated his 30th birthday. Once the world's most commercial stallion, Storm Cat (who has left 176 stakes-winners and 35 Gr1 winners) retired from stud duties in 2008 and still resides at Overbrook Farm where he spent his whole career. His trainer Jonathan Sheppard was there to celebrate the day with him and told kentucky.com: "He's been a big part of our lives. Mr. (William T.) Young did give us a breeding right to him and I've always been very interested in breeding anyway. To be associated with a horse who became a legend in the breeding shed and made a difference on the breed is pretty neat. He had quite a bit of spirit (in training) and you needed a strong hand on him. But he had the will to win, the competitiveness to fight."
