Racing NSW Announces Race Field Fees Changes

Following an amendment by the NSW Government on February 27 to regulations governing approvals to use Race Field information, commencing March 1, the Racing Administration Amendment (Fees) Regulation 2013 amended the Racing Administration Regulation 2012 to provide for "an increase from 1.5% to 2% of wagering turnover in the maximum amount of the fee that a relevant racing control body may impose for the use of NSW race field information at certain premium race meetings and to authorise variation of current race field approvals from 1 March 2013". Racing NSW yesterday wrote to all wagering operators with current race field approvals advising of the change in fees that will now apply at 2% for premium race meetings in NSW (the $5 million exemption threshold still applies). Racing NSW chief executive Peter V'Landy's explained: "Significant extra costs apply to these racedays with increased marketing and promotional campaigns and of course the higher prizemoney on offer… It is only fair that a different fee applies, as customers are more attracted to these meetings and each wagering operator's business for the day reflects that interest… NSW has one aim with the increase in fees for Premium meetings – to return the money directly to our participants. The fees will be distributed in extra prizemoney and contribute to racetrack improvements."
