Black Caviar Naming Kerfuffle Resolved

Authorities in South Africa have responded quickly to concerns raised by their Australian counterparts to the name Black Caviar given to a horse by former New Zealand shuttler, and now South African-based stallion, Black Minnaloushe. According to goldcircle.co.nz, the National Horseracing Authority's administration manager Colin Hall commented, "The South African colt was not named after the champion Australian sprinter and it is purely coincidental that it was given the same name. The new name is to be approved shortly." That new name is Black Beluga; as it turned out, the colt was scratched from his Durbanville debut in Cape Town earlier this week after going lame in his near-fore.
