Niblick Wins Listed National Sprint

In the final stakes race in Canberra yesterday, former dual Champion Australian Coolmore Stud Sire Encosta De Lago (Fairy King-Shoal Creek, by Star Way) added a stakes success when 6YO gelding Niblick (Encosta de Lago-Leica Vista, by Sir Tristram) scored a narrow 0.1-length victory for trainer Brett Cavanough in the $101,500 Listed National Sprint (1400m), over 4YO gelding Upshot (Stratum–Reshoot, by Mossman) & 5YO mare Glad You Called (Aristotle–Crown of Honour, by Carry the Crown). A $220,000 Magic Millions 2008 yearling graduate from the draft of Swettenham Stud (and subsequently a $200,000 Inglis 2012 Melbourne Select Racehorse Sale purchase from the annual dispersal of Hudson Conway Racing Pty Ltd [Lloyd Willams]), Niblick took his record to 7 wins (including the Listed Sofitel Handicap) & 4 placings (including the Gr3 Eclipse Stakes & Gr3 RJ Peters Stakes) from 20 starts for $332,125 earnings.
