Mouthwatering HK Clash Looms For Sunday
Although the HK$16 million Gr2 Hong Kong Derby will capture much of the press leading into Sunday's highly anticipated Sha Tin card, the clash of the titans in the HK$6 million Gr1 Queen's Silver Jubilee Cup looms as the meatier option for purists, reports racing.scmp.com. This year's installment will engage New Zealand-bred, twice Hong Kong Horse of the Year Ambitious Dragon (Pins-Golden Gamble, by Oregon), Australian-bred Gr1 Stewards Cup winner Glorious Days (Hussonet-San Century, by Centaine) and Irish-bred Gr1 Chairman's Sprint Prize victor Lucky Nine (Dubawi-Birjand, by Green Desert). "Between them, the three stars in this year's renewal have had 14 starts at 1400m for nine wins, three seconds and a third." Anticipating a torrid affair, champion HK jockey Douglas Whyte summed up the feeling in the lead-up to the Silver Jubilee: "A lot will boil down to draws and a little luck in running."
