Thursday, 14th March 2013

David Metcalfe has died after a long battle with cancer reports racingpost.com. The former racing manager to Sheikh Ahmed Al Maktoum & Khalifa Dasmal, and respected bloodstock agent, was associated with 5-time Gr1-winning stallion Mtoto (Busted-Amazer, by Mincio) and his Derby winning son Shaamit (Mtoto-Shomoose, by Habitat), as well as with recently purchased Satwa Queen (Muhtathir-Tolga, by Irish River) who went on to win the Gr1 Prix de l'Opera before being sold for 3,400,000gns at the Tattersalls December Breeding-Stock Sale. Secretary general of the Federation of Bloodstock Agents Andrew Mead said, "David was a member of the federation for many years and a good friend of mine. His well-dressed and dapper figure was someone I always looked forward to seeing at a horse sale or race meeting, and while not buying large numbers of horses, he was involved in the purchase and management of more than one Gr1 winner."
