Meanwhile, underlining the continual improvement in US bloodstock markets, the Ocala Breeders' March Sale in Florida witnessed a 2YO Smart Strike colt sell overnight for US$1.8 million to Stonestreet Stable. Equalling the highest price for the March sale set back in 2006, the grey or roan son of Pulpit mare Mini Sermon helped to take the sale to new records for both average and median. All-told 182 horses traded hands for US$28,871,000 compared with 180 horses grossing US$24,739,500 in 2012. The average price was US$158,632, up 15.4 percent compared with US$137,442 in 2012 and breaking the sale record average of US$143,262 set in 2008. The median price was a record US$127,500, compared with the previous sale record of US$100,000 equaled a year ago and first set in 2008. The buyback percentage was 22.9%; it was 25% last year.
