Racing Vic Chairman Horse of the Year Judge

Friday, 15th March 2013

At Equestrian Victoria Horse of the Year Show held at Werribee Park this weekend – featuring an Australian Stud Book Registered Thoroughbred only class – Racing Victoria's new chairman Robert Roulston will be a special judge of the thoroughbred only classes. A leading, international bloodstock agent, Roulston has a keen eye for selecting quality racehorses and is well known for his assistance in the selection of Group winning horses such as Americain, Puissance de Lune, Lucas Cranach, Mawingo and Special Harmony. The Equestrian Victoria Horse of the Year is the only state qualifier for the Equestrian Australia Show Horse and Rider Championships, affectionately known as the 'Nationals', where the best horses and riders from Australia and New Zealand compete for the title of National Champion. Over 200 riders and horses, plus a number of high profile industry participants, are expected to converge on Werribee Park National Equestrian Centre. Admission is free. Racing Victoria's Equine Welfare Officer Cara Shelley said, "Given the great number of thoroughbreds which participate in equestrian show horse events in Victoria, this class has a high standing, and is one of the most strongly supported with more than 25 horses nominated for the class. Racehorses are perfect candidates for re-training and re-homing and their temperament, agility and intelligence make them a highly sought after breed when it comes to other equestrian sports and leisure activities. The Horse of the Year Show will provide a great platform to showcase the attributes of the thoroughbred and Racing Victoria's Equine Welfare initiatives to the equestrian public."
