Black Friday Averted For AFL Season Opener
In AFL-mad Melbourne, footy and television executives at Channel 7 will be pleased by Moonee Valley's decision to push back Friday's starting time of the Gr1 William Reid Stakes (1200m) to 9.55pm. According to theage.com.au, the race, expected to be champion Black Caviar's farewell Melbourne race, will be broadcast live on Channel 7 in Melbourne & Adelaide (and on 7mate in Sydney) during the AFL season opener's half-time break. With the meeting expected to be a sell-out due to the undefeated mare's presence, the William Reid is likely to see Black Caviar face a small field in her quest to equal Kingston Town's Australian record of 14 Gr1 victories.
