Caulfield Cup Winner Fraar Dies
The 1993 Gr Caulfield Cup winner Fraar (Topsider-Alchaasibiyeh, by Seattle Slew) has died at Cornerstone Stud, aged 24, where he has been living in retirement. Bred by Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum's Shadwell Stud, the Royal Ascot winner was also placed in the Gr1 C.F.Orr Stakes, Gr1 Mackinnon Stakes & Gr1 Australian Cup, in addition to winning the Gr3 Coongy Stakes & a few Listed events. Fraar is the sire of 7 stakes-winners including the gifted sprinter-miler Nina Haraka, and winners in 9 countries, however his legacy in years to come may be as a broodmare sire; he is the broodmare sire of such performers as The Verminator and Snitzerland, who set a new track record in Sydney over the weekend (see full report below).
