More Bargains On Offer At 'Rocky' Sale
The Central Queensland Thoroughbred Breeders Association Inc (CQTBA) has taken over the Capricornia Yearling Sale set to be held in Rockhampton on April 14. The sale, associated race day and other related events are managed jointly by the CQTBA and the Rockhampton Jockey Club. Graduates of the sale are automatically nominated for the $100,000 Capricornia Sale 2YO Classic race, as well as two $10,000 bonuses on selected Mackay and Rockhampton 2YO races in the lead up to the main race. These bonuses will be paid on a proportionate basis to the first three placegetters in the selected races and will be additional to the normal prizemoney and QTIS incentives. Sale Co-ordinator Jeff Leave, said in a press release: "This year's sale is certainly the strongest sale we have promoted to date, both in terms of numbers and quality of yearlings. There are 116 lots catalogued this year and it is a well balanced offering with yearlings from leading sires, popular sires and new season sires represented. We have 76 QTIS eligible yearlings this year along with 26 BOBS eligible yearlings. When you consider that the winner of our 2014 Capricornia Yearling Sale 2YO Classic worth $100,000 in prizemoney must come from this sale it is one heck of an incentive to buy one of our yearlings." With many leading sires engaged, sale graduates in recent years include Gr3 winner River Lad (Top Echelon-Ikeymo, by Canny Lad), $245k earner Aspiran (Bagger Vance-Deena Nediym, by Nediym) and the promising $200k+ earner Kilwinning Option (Immovable Option-Yallah Vista, by Yallah Prince) – all being sold or passed in at or below $11,000.
