Ballydoyle Guineas Hope Could Miss Guineas

Tuesday, 26th March 2013

Ballydoyle trainer Aidan O'Brien has suggested that Gr1 Racing Post Trophy winner Kingsbarns (Galileo-Beltisaal, by Belmez) may be forced to miss the Gr1 2,000 Guineas "after suffering a setback in training", reports bloodstock.racingpost.com. Having to be withdrawn from a planned gallop at The Curragh last Sunday, O'Brien declared that the unbeaten colt has "developed an infection after tearing off a shoe during a routine canter" and is running against the clock to be match fit for the Newmarket Classic on May 4. He commented: "You'd have to worry about the Guineas. He didn't do anything for about ten days after his setback… It's nothing major but I wanted him to be here [working today] and I tried to get him here, so the Guineas is a worry. For our horses to go to the Guineas without a run, they need to be here."
