Sangster Plans Hang In The Balance

Tuesday, 26th March 2013

Immediate plans for triple Gr1 winner Sangster (Savabeel-Quinta Special, by Spectrum) have been put on ice after he incurred a black-eye during the running of Saturday's Gr1 Ranvet Stakes at Rosehill, where he finished 7th. Trainer Trent Busuttin commented on the injury and the likelihood of pressing on with his Sydney autumn camapign: "We wanted to ride him up a bit handier but he banged his head on the side of the gates and gave himself a black eye… It's 50-50 whether we carry on or bring him home. We'll monitor him and talk to the owners and then make a decision later in the week… It wasn't a bad run and he needs more ground. He was coming back from 3200 to 2000 metres and he got a lot further back in the running than we wanted… He'll be meeting the same type of field again in the BMW and I know if he's on his game over the 2400 metres he would be capable of being right up there with them."
