Gr1 Winner Planet Rock Retired

Wednesday, 27th March 2013

Last season's New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year Planet Rock (Fastnet Rock-Akris, by Zabeel) has been retired, with co-trainer Peter Williams saying: "We weren't that happy with her and she's too valuable a mare to risk so we made the decision to be retire her." Planet Rock gave her trainers their first Gr1 victory at Riccarton Park after training in Canterbury for the previous 37 years. Planet Rock (a NZ$290,000 yearling consigned by Wellfield Lodge at the 2010 NZB Premier Sale at Karaka) retires with the record of 5 wins (including 2011's Gr1 NZB 1000 Guineas over 1600m at Riccarton Park, Gr2 Cambridge Stud Eight Carat Classic over 1600m at Ellerslie & Gr3 Lowland Stakes over 2100m at Hastings) & 4 placings (including 2011's Listed Canterbury Belle Stakes over 1200m at Riccarton Park & Listed NZB Karaka Million over 1200m at Ellerslie) from 11 starts for NZ$392,225 earnings. A trial winner last November, she made her final appearance when unplaced in the Gr3 Concorde Handicap before Christmas.
