Munce Gets Back To Work

Wednesday, 27th March 2013

Following his diagnosis of throat cancer several month's ago, champion jockey Chris Munce yesterday re-commenced riding trackwork in preparation for a return to race riding, reports racenet.com.au. Munce commented on his comeback: "It was very good. It has obviously been a while and it was good to get back on a horse and start to get back into it… I only did a couple and then I jumped one out. For the first few days, that's what I'll concentrate on, just taking it steady." Juggling his return to the saddle with managing his illness (which included both radiation and chemotherapy this summer), Munce added: "[My fitness is] steadily improving but it's not something I am going to rush or anything like that, I just want to take it steady… There have been some hard days but hopefully we are through the worst of it and it's onwards and upwards. I have just got to get a bit of strength and a bit of fitness back… I'm hopeful of getting back for the [Brisbane] carnival. I'll just let my body tell me how it's going along the way."
