Aust-Bred Hong Kong Star Doubtful For Dubai Sprint
Dual Hong Kong Gr1 winner Eagle Regiment (El Moxie-Fire Lake, by Bureaucracy) is in doubt for a start in the Gr1 Al Quoz Sprint on Saturday at the Dubai World Cup meeting, reports racing.scmp.com. After missing the race last year (which was won by Ortensia) due to a minor stable injury, the disappointment for trainer Manfred Man looms large again. "I trotted him up on Sunday night and he was perfect, but something has happened, because the next morning he came out and he was lame," said ERA veterinary steward David Sykes. "If it was 24 hours before race time, and he was like I saw him today, he would not be racing. The fact that I saw him 12 hours before that, tells you that something has happened - so therefore you've got to be concerned. We aren't going to know the outcome of the recovery, because we don't know how it was done. It's an inflammatory response in his hoof - whether it some bruising or something else going on there, but the farriers do not think it is an abscess." Initially a $100,000 Magic Millions Perth yearling & subsequently sold by Magic Millions for $150,000 as a 2YO, Eagle Regiment has won 7 races (including 2013 and 2012 Gr1 Kent & Curwen Centenary Sprint Cup) & 3 placings from 12 starts for HK$8,300,400 earnings.
