Waterhouse Duo Out Of Doncaster

Thursday, 28th March 2013

The vice-like grip that last weekend's Gr1 Canterbury Stakes-winning 3YO colt, Pierro, has on the market for next month's Gr1 Doncaster Handicap has tightened even further. In two unrelated decisions, both Proisir and More Joyous will not be taking on the short-priced Pierro who is yet to taste defeat in Sydney. Proisir has gone amiss with a tendon injury which could keep him out of racing until 2014. The decision for glamour Sydney mare More Joyous to miss the Doncaster is unrelated to any injury, and involved pure arithmetic. Defeated by Pierro in the Canterbury Stakes after conceding him 1kg, More Joyous' connections felt that with a 2.5kg differential in the Doncaster it would be mathematically difficult for her to turn the tables in the iconic mile event.
