Caulfield In Lockstep With TV Ratings Period

Tuesday, 2nd July 2013

The Melbourne Racing Club has announced that this year's Caulfield Cup and Caulfield Guineas will be scheduled as the final events on their respective race-cards, reports racingnetwork.com.au. Both races will be televised live at 5.45pm, just before Channel 7s nightly news bulletin, in a move designed to maximise interest and betting turnover on the club's two biggest race days of the year. Chairman Mike Symons explained the strategy is something the club had contemplated for quite some time but that former broadcast partner Channel 9 was opposed to the idea. "Channel 7 are taking a totally different approach – run the feature race as the last race, hit a crescendo and go straight into the news," stated Symons. "I think it is a huge positive. It builds the whole day and maximises wagering – people bet more as the day goes on. Why wouldn't you have your best and deepest race as race 10?"
