Tas Racing's Benefits Queried

Wednesday, 3rd July 2013

Following a negative view of racing in Tasmania in an online survey done by themercury.com.au, Tasracing has appointed IER Pty Ltd to substantiate the economic and social benefits of racing in Tasmania. Tasracing has a 20 year, $28 million per annum deal with the state government, following the Government's controversial sale of TOTE Tasmania for $103m to the Tatts Group, but posted a $10 million loss in 2011/12. Tasracing CEO Dr Eliot Forbes argues that the current operating model is unsustainable and that this economic impact study will form part of Tasracing's sustainability review. Dr Forbes said IER had begun its work and a report was expected by September.
