Durban July To Proceed As Planned

Thursday, 4th July 2013

Against the backdrop of the serious illness of former South African President Nelson Mandela (who remains in hospital), goldcircle.co.za advises that the R3.5 million Gr1 Vodacom Durban July (2200m) will proceed as scheduled this Saturday at Greyville. The meeting has been approved by Dr Zweli Mkize, the Premier of the KwaZulu-Natal province. "It will be a fitting gesture as our beloved Madiba (as Mandela is affectionately known as) is in the prayers of all of us globally. We all love and salute him," he stated. As a tribute, Gold Circle will ask racegoers to observe a 67-second silent prayer in respect and honour of Madiba while images of the country's iconic leader are played on the venue's large screens. Patrons will also be given a heart-shaped emblem as a tribute to Mandela upon entry to the racecourse.
