Equiano Finishes 3rd UK Season With 122 Mares

Friday, 5th July 2013

Swettenham Stud's dual Gr1-winning shuttler Equiano (Acclamation-Entente Cordiale, by Ela-Mana-Mou) has finished his third season at Newsells Park in England with stud master Julian Dollar reporting that Equiano served 122 mares with 96 percent in foal. Dollar enthused: "He takes so little out of himself and hardly breaks into a sweat. I'm sure Adam Sangster and the Swettenham team know what I'm talking about. When he came back from Australia earlier this year, we had to put him on a diet! His first foals sold so well at Tattersalls and Goffs last year. And the feedback I'm getting from breeders is that they are developing into magnificent yearlings." On the track, Equiano won the 2008 UK Gr1 King's Stand Stakes (5 furlongs) at Royal Ascot (as a 3YO against older horses, with Australia's Takeover Target runner-up) & won the same Gr1 King's Stand Stakes again in 2010 (with Australia's Nicconi 4th), before finishing runner-up by a neck behind Australian-bred Starspangledbanner in 2010's UK Gr1 July Cup (6 furlongs) at Newmarket. Equiano has entered quarantine and will arrive at Swettenham in time for the stud's stallion parade on August 25. Watch his racing highlights below.
