O'Brien Adds Firepower In Eclipse Quest

Friday, 5th July 2013

Ballydoyle trainer Aidan O'Brien will attempt to win a record-equalling 6th Gr1 Coral-Eclipse (2000m) at Sandown on Saturday, reports racingpost.com. O'Brien has trained the winner of the prestigious race on five occasions with Giant's Causeway, Hawk Wing, Oratorio, Mount Nelson & So You Think. This year the stable will likely be represented by 4YO Declaration Of War (War Front-Tempo West, by Rahy), last-start winner of the Gr1 Queen Anne, & the 3YO Mars (Galileo-Massarra, by Danehill), last-start 3rd to Dawn Approach in the Gr1 St James's Palace Stakes. "There is a strong possibility that Declaration Of War will run in the Eclipse," stated O'Brien. "A final decision will be made early in the morning. We plan to run Mars in the race." Should either Coolmore galloper prove victorious, O'Brien will equal the long-standing record set by Alec Taylor Jr in 1923. The Roger Charlton-trained Gr1 winning 5YO Al Kazeem (Dubawi) is favourite for the race.
