Waller Sets New Sydney Metro Record

Monday, 8th July 2013

Trainer Chris Waller is the toast of Sydney racing after breaking the record for most metropolitan wins in a season at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday. Waller surpassed the existing record of 156 wins, held by father and daughter Tommy Smith & Gai Waterhouse, when 3YO gelding Oompa Loompa (Testa Rossa-Lindalay, Honour And Glory) led throughout to win the Become An ATC Sponsor (1200m) for 3YOs. But the native New Zealander didn't stop there and by day's end had established a new benchmark of 159.5 wins with further victories to Fulgur (High Chaparral), Secessio (Konigstiger) & Eigelstein (Dubawi). An emotional Waller was clearly delighted with his accomplishment. "It's a very satisfying moment," he stated. "We won't get ahead of ourselves and say that we'll better it or anything, we'll just enjoy it." Meanwhile, Waller is expected to look at potentially doubling his Melbourne stables at the VRC "from 10 to 20 before the Spring Carnival", reports theage.com.au.
