July Cup Defection For Gordon Lord Byron

Tuesday, 9th July 2013

Meanwhile, Gr1-winning UK sprinter Gordon Lord Byron (Byron-Boa Estrela, by Intikhab) will bypass the July Cup at Newmarket this weekend to pursue back-to-back Prix de La Foret victories in the autumn, reports racingpost.com. Trainer Tom Hogan confirmed that the 5YO will again target the French Gr1 (1400m) at Longchamp in October, with more ambitious targets such as Hong Kong and Canada also on the agenda. "We gave Gordon Lord Byron a short break after Ascot and he won't be going to Newmarket," explained Hogan. "We're looking at an autumn campaign for him with the Foret again a target… we'll be looking again at Hong Kong while there is also a race at Woodbine to consider." Gordon Lord Byron's next race is likely to be either the Gr3 Minstrel Stakes at The Curragh on July 20, the Gr2 Lennox Stakes at Goodwood or the Gr1 Prix Maurice de Gheest at Deauville.
